Shelter OS - The AI-Native Platform for Animal Welfare

A product initiative exploring how fragmented animal-welfare workflows can become one extensible operating platform.

The Problem

Animal welfare software is defined by legacy constraints. Most shelters operate using systems designed before cloud-native architectures - monolithic, facility-based, and resistant to change.

Workflows are split across tools, spreadsheets, emails, and binders. Data quality is inconsistent. System switching is painfully costly. And corporate partners who want access to adoption data have no clean integration points.

Our Approach

We built Shelter OS from the ground up as an AI-native, event-sourced, multi-tenant platform. AI isn't bolted on - it's embedded as workflow infrastructure for extraction, normalization, and decision support.

Every module is designed around how shelters actually work: intake to medical to foster to adoption to post-adoption, with traceability, permissions, and review treated as product requirements.

Design Principles

AI-Native

AI is workflow infrastructure - extraction, normalization, decision support, quality enforcement - not a chatbot bolt-on.

Event-Sourced

Meaningful changes are designed to produce durable events, supporting traceability and operational review.

Multi-Tenant

Organizations, sites, roles, and permissions scoped correctly from the foundation. Built for coalitions and networks.

Workflow-First

Software adapts to shelter reality, not the other way around. Configurable workflows that match how shelters actually operate.

Connected operating areas

Covering the full animal welfare lifecycle - from the moment an animal enters the system to post-adoption follow-up and ongoing community engagement.

Intake & Triage

AI-assisted data extraction concepts for forms, PDFs, and photos, organized around structured intake types.

Animal Records

Living profiles with full timeline: medical, behavior, foster history, adoption status, and public visibility controls.

Foster Management

Smart matching engine with age-range preferences, medical willingness flags, capacity tracking, and mobile check-ins.

Adoptions

Configurable multi-step workflows, digital contract signing with QR codes, counseling notes, and auto-finalization.

Volunteer Management

Profiles, shift scheduling, mobile app with QR check-in, expense tracking, and push notifications.

People & CRM

Unified person records across roles: adopter, foster, volunteer, staff. Person flags with mandatory reasons.

Medical & Behavior

Vaccine tracking, medication logs, behavioral observations, and enrichment records.

Field Services

Case management, dispatch, and community services for animal control operations.

Tasks & Automation

Auto-generated tasks from events and protocols. Assignment, tracking, and completion workflows.

The Infrastructure Behind the Adoption Channel

Shelter OS explores the structured data and integration layer behind animal-welfare operations, including how shelters and responsible partners could coordinate around the adoption journey without turning that journey into Doers' company category.
